For generations, Black women have made significant contributions to the fields of maternal care, birth care, and midwifery. Despite facing significant obstacles and barriers, including systemic racism and discrimination in the healthcare system, Black women have persevered and continued to provide compassionate and empowering care to families in their communities. In recognition of their contributions and their ongoing work to improve maternal health outcomes and reduce racial disparities in maternal health, we want to take a moment to celebrate the many Black women who are making a difference in the lives of families in Sacramento, CA.
Black women have a rich history in the field of midwifery, dating back to the days of slavery when they were often the only source of care for pregnant women in their communities. Today, Black women continue to play a vital role in providing maternal care and birth support, and they are helping to ensure that families in their communities have access to safe, empowering, and culturally-competent care. From community-based organizations and midwifery centers to advocacy groups and health clinics, Black women are leading the way in making a difference in the lives of families in the Sacramento area.

Felicia Lockett-Parker: Felicia Lockett-Parker is a certified professional midwife and a leader in the field of midwifery. She has been providing compassionate and empowering care to families in the Sacramento area for many years, and she is a strong advocate for Black mothers and families.
LaShawn Harris: LaShawn Harris is a doula and birth justice activist who has dedicated her life to improving maternal health outcomes and reducing racial disparities in maternal health. Black Women Birthing Justice: This organization is dedicated to improving maternal health outcomes and reducing racial disparities in maternal health.
